Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one’s death. Each person in this world has their reason why they do it. No matter what the reason is suicide is not allowed because it means you just violating your right to live. Each culture has its cause and way to respond to this problem. In Indonesia, almost everyday people are forced to face a complex reality that sometimes it is beyond their control, such as economic issues, abusive lives, and bullying behavior. They got depressed and commit suicide. In Indonesia, families whose members are committed suicide have various responses about it.
First, they will see suicide as shame or embarrassment for the family. This happens because there is a childhood habit that educates that mental illness is a disgrace to the family. As much as possible parents usually ask us not to complain easily. Honestly, this habit has a good intention, which is not to give up easily. But not everyone has the same capacity to hide their emotion. The result is some of them have depression and choose to end their life. This behavior of hiding emotion should be change for a better life.
Second, it is a sin according to religion. This opinion is created because of the beliefs and culture that exist in Indonesia. As we know that Indonesian people are known as religious people and really obey the culture rules. Honestly, it is fine if they believe in their religion, but what upsetting is their reaction about suicide. Some of them openly tell the families of those who died by suicide that they are going to hell. It’s not a polite thing to do.
The last, people who commit suicide are considered as a coward because they left their responsibility in the world. Family judgments can be one of the reasons why this thing happened. It is all because children have a trust issue with the people around them. They can’t trust easily and tend to hide their feelings and will not tell if they have a problem. It is all because they are afraid to tell it.
