In the middle of pandemic, movie now become the new entertainment for everyone in quarantine. It happened because we only have few options to entertain us from boredom. But have you ever realized that the movies you watch are always the same and make you bored? That’s because the films you watch are produced by big company that monopoly all movie activities. These are the reasons of why monopoly in movie still exists even though it’s not good, such as:
The first reason is the monopoly in the movie industry makes company produce more movies every year. The fans of movie must be very happy about it because they can watch their favorite movies. They may make a lot of movie but you cannot deny that the type of movies that they make probably similar to each other. It happened because the lack of creativity that they have. Usually it takes years to make good movies. The company only gives the creator and crew short time to make movies. They are force to make more movies. They do not care if the script is lack of logic. As long this movie makes everyone happy with the CGI then they will release this movie to cinema.
The second reason is that big company control movie trend. Because there are only few big movie companies, they can control the trend of movies in the world. They will only make certain genres, the one that profitable. Determining the type of film makes it easier for them to make certain films. Usually they will prepare many film scripts with similar contents and later they will make movie. They will continue to use this existing film trends. This trend will no longer be used until there is no demand at all. Things like this are very detrimental for small companies if they do not follow the existing trends. Small companies will lose movie viewers because the trend is controlled by large companies.
The third reason is that only certain company can make profit. This is due to the second reason that mentioned before. Big company will try everything to make sure that the will never lose viewers. Not only profit, sometimes the big company makes the rules in the award show. Big companies cooperate and even pay award parties to change the rules regarding award nominations. They manipulate the rules in award show such as changing the nominee category, changing the movie nominee, and even ban small company. This makes it difficult for small companies to get notice from the public.
The conclusion why big monopoly in movie industry exists is that big company able to make more movies, they control movie trend, and only certain company can make profit. For this reason, it is important for the community not to support monopolistic activities carried out by big company. It will be better if people start noticing small company by buying their ticket and attend their show. They can also help by spreading information about small company movies. Hopefully in the future there will be no more monopoly anymore.
